FAQs
Recover, Rejuvenate, and Revitalize with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?
HBOT is a medical treatment that involves breathing 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The increased oxygen delivery accelerates tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing throughout the body.
What does it feel like inside the hyderbaric chamber?
While the chamber is pressurising, your ears may feel the change in pressure, like being in an aeroplane during take-off.
This can be alleviated by yawning or swallowing. Once the pressure has been reached you should feel comfortable.
What must I do to prepare for the session?
Wear loose-fitting clothing. Shoes, jewellery, belts and any sharp objects must be removed before entering the chamber. You will be in the chamber for a while so you can bring along music, books, tablets or our laptop if you need to work, otherwise lie back, relax and even have a nap.
Are There Contraindications for Hyperbaric Therapy?
There are very few risks associated with HBOT. It may cause sinus congestion. People with the following conditions are recommended to get medical advice before using HBOT:
- Pregnancy
- Rhinitis (blocked/ inflamed nasal passage)
- Otitis (inflamed ear)
- Pacemaker
- Pneumothorax
- People undergoing chemotherapy must get clearance from their oncologist
Can I Use Devices In The Chamber?
YES! You can bring along your laptop or tablet to work or watch a movie, your phone and earphones to listen to a podcast or music. Otherwise use the time to relax. If you’re doing a session with your child, you can bring games along to play with them inside the chamber.
How does the hyperbaric chamber help my body?
- Increased Oxygen Delivery:
HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing your lungs to absorb significantly more oxygen than at normal air pressure. - Enhanced Oxygen Saturation:
This extra oxygen is then carried throughout the body via the blood, ensuring tissues, including those damaged or struggling to heal, receive a higher concentration of oxygen. - Improved Healing:
The increased oxygen supply supports various healing processes, including: - Wound Healing:
HBOT can accelerate the healing of wounds, burns, and other injuries by promoting the growth of new blood vessels and tissues. - Fighting Infections:
The higher oxygen levels can help the body’s immune system fight off infections and weaken infection-causing bacteria. - Reducing Swelling and Inflammation:
HBOT can help reduce swelling and inflammation in tissues, which can be beneficial for conditions like sports injuries or post-surgical recovery. - Stimulating Stem Cell Release:
HBOT has been shown to stimulate the release of stem cells and growth factors, which are crucial for tissue regeneration and repair.
